I'm Having Too Much Fun...

On Flickr. God, I love it. You should really check out my Photostream to get a tasty little look :) I just bought a pro account on there, and I love all the statistical goodness! Above is something I took today, and edited just a little. It makes me think of childhood's innocent fun and the silly games we've all played. I'm learning a lot about photography since I got my new camera. Speaking of presents leads me to holidays, thus I hope everyone enjoyed their "Season of Choice" as I would like to say. My sister and I have been rockin' it on RockBand, another of our gifts. I also got Wii Music, and I can't wait to play it. Hooray for musical ability, even if it is oversimplified in a video game.

One thing that I was not thrilled about was this week's PostSecret. Oh, sure it was all sweet...go ahead Frank, you deserve a break. Sorry, but, damn it! I wanted secrets!

Thank God school is out. This has been a much needed break, and with this refreshment I'll be ready to return in 2009. I can't believe it's almost time for graduation, for college, for life! Ahhh.

Ok, seriously, go look at my photos...and everyone else's on that fantastic site.

Have fun!

Garden of the Gods.

Hello! For the first excursion of our holiday freedom, my family and I ventured to a far off land commonly known as Illinois to meander our way through trails and rocks and such. Garden of the Gods was really neat, despite it just being a valley-like area with large rocks. We climbed "Camel Rock" (below):

I was able to get some pretty good shots of the area, though I was held to the explorative time restraints of younger siblings. Here are some of my favourites:

It was truly a beautiful day, and an excellent trip for the family. We rather recently moved to town from a cozy log cabin with the luxury of a few acres we could explore everyday and we've really missed the trees and the fresh air and the space. I mostly miss that awesome feeling you get when you see something as simple and elegant as nature; I'm always taken aback when I think of what complexities our world is full of, and how they are each different and interconnected. I love it.

Letters.

Hey friends! Can you believe it's almost 2009! Wow. Today's title: Letters. Why? At first, it was just an obvious choice because of my really cool sheets (pictured above) courtesy of Goodwill. Also seen: my guitar, dear Annabelle (though I am thinking of a proper name to replace), proof of my knitting attempts (and failures), and our dear, curious kitty, aptly named...Kitty. As far as knitting goes, I am really interested and am easily thrilled at the thought of being able to make a nifty little scarf, not to mention a hip sweater-vest or something clever like that. I particularly like knit hats, so perhaps I'll learn a pattern. One day.

In addition to letters on my sheets, I've also received some very welcome letters in the past few days. I have officially been accepted to Earlham (hooray!) and have been chosen to receive the Presidential Honors Scholarship...so far. In the 3rd letter many other things were mentioned, and hopefully the costs will continue to dwindle. I am super excited, and indubitably nervous beyond belief.

I am also excited about venturing northward because it gives reason to buy some kickass outdoor gear, i.e. a suitable camping jacket, a new bicycle, a nice backpack, some "rugged" shoes and in my hopes a Subaru Forester (or some variation of such a "wagon/hatchback"). But that is a far hope ;)

Snow Day!

Well, to be more precise, we experienced a nice coat of ice. Nonetheless, the crystallization served as a viable excuse to cancel school :) Tomorrow's day is scheduled to begin 2 hours later, but that may change... It'll be nice, though, just long enough to pop in there, have a cute little pizza party in the library/media centre and skedaddle right on out of there. Three cheers for pepperoni! Oh, yeah, hooray for MEAT! hahaha. As pictured above, Birkenstocks serve well all year long. Really, the ice on the porch is a nice touch to bare feet. A bit chilly, but enjoyable. Today I made a secret to send in to PostSecret...perhaps it'll be posted! Now that would be nifty... I also attempted various artistic projects, i.e. a nice sketch of a tree's buds, a terribly carved hunk of wood and some strategic poster hanging.

I'm at a difficult time...what do I get people for the holidays? I don't particularly celebrate Jesus' birthday, but it is nice to give...

Moral Orel is on now. Oh, how I love this show. Actually, it's just one of those things you have to watch; you can't peel your eyes from the irreverent humour of evil. Not the "Reason for the Season." LMAO. Ha, cleverly placed lame text lingo ;)

Well, I bid you ado, with a good day, too.

Awesome Video.

Hey, friends! Check out this neato video I found via something else cool, Stumble. Courtney showed the Stumble add-on to me on Firefox, it's pretty cool and you can see lots of intriguing/educational websites.

Happy Birthday, Britney!

Guess what? It's Britney, bitch! My best wishes to her...and my love :) I'm so happy that she is getting back on track and recovering from what I'll refer to here as "The Rough Patch." Britney: For the Record was a good move, albeit a self-promoting MTV promo add. Whatever. Now, of course I was with Britney through it all, or rather, she's been with me, but the point is we go waay back. Ha. YES! I ran through Wal Mart to get Circus and YES! I love it! So, here, right now for your viewing pleasure, one of my all-time favourite videos and songs from her. It is so badass. If you watch it in the right light you will get chills. Enjoy. BTW, she totally owns with that chair.

Current Obsession.

So here's what's on my mind, helping to keep me distracted from important work of applications and supplements and etc etc etc....

29 November 2008

You Know How to Holla G-UNIT...

What up? Sometimes I get in these moods where I listen to a few of my favourite rap songs and I'm totally pumped. It's pretty lame, but 50's Get Rich or Die Tryin' CD is like, whoa! I know, it's so old and lousy and all that, but I have fun. Tomorrow is the last day before my application to Earlham is due. To be honest, I hadn't looked at the application until today and it wasn't what I had expected. I had created a menacing image of grueling questions with impossible answers, but the Common App is pretty simple...I'll just write about J. Low and be done with it :) Earlham does have a Supplement, but hopefully that won't take too long.

Well, Henry County finally lost. It was a heartbreaking scene; grown men weeping and girls hyperventilating. Absolutely tragic. They played an outstanding season, however, and my condolences to everyone who was really impacted by the loss. This does mean that the HCHS Marching Patriots have exactly NO more Friday night obligations! Senior marching band has not been that enjoyable at all. People are waaay too stupid to be able to roam around like they do. I must hope that concert will be immensely better, but I know in my heart of hearts I wait in vain.

Speaking of vanity, I do love some classic Carly. I currently have The Con by Tegan and Sara on repeat. They are pretty rockin'. Something else particularly short of a miracle: my room has been mildly clean for nearly a week!

I have more or less much enjoyed the time out of school, even if it means nothing other than I am not forced to lug around my backpack (woohoo Jansport).

I may have seen my mother's Christmas shopping list for everyone. I am looking forward to Wii Music and a new camera...well, not that there was an old one...

Waffles? I should rest up now...my mother and I have a "breakfast date" with friends at precisely 7:00 in the morning. Not cool. Ha.

27 November 2008

Tofurkey My Knurkey, Y'all.

Happy Thanksgiving! Today was pleasant enough, if not at least entertaining with my
young cousin. The other night in kickboxing, this girl was talking about how
vegetarians spend their Thanksgivings. Well, it's not that hard. Soy can be turned into
anything, so we are pretty much set. Judging by the title, I began this with Tofurkey on
my mind, the healthy, well seasoned and peaceful alternative to our fowl friends.
However, when I went to find a video on YouTube to lessen the necessity of my
typings, I was led to Turducken videos. The girl in kickboxing also mentioned this
edible portmanteau, if you will. I was like, "WTF;" much the same response warranted
by the above clip. Anywho, I hope everyone enjoyed their festivities :)

btw: idk how to make it right with a video, in case you hadn't noticed. haha.

Who You Callin' an Idiom?

Hey friends. I'm here at my grandparents' house watching Richie Rich. Oh, Macauley Caulkin-totally old school. So tomorrow is Thanksgiving! What a treat. There's Lemon Mousse in the freezer and freshly made Oreo balls all ready for tomorrow. Plus, I'm naturally looking forward to the stuffing :) Hooray. My uncle, aunt and their small child have ventured up from Florida, so tomorrow will surely be a day of family fun. Now, what am I thankful for? Of course, the obvious answers: family, friends, food, shelter, clothing, etc. I am also immensely appreciative of my ambitions. Sadly, so many people have no drive, no force behind their lives. I hope to grow into an intelligent, contributing member of society. In mentioning important things, EVERYTHING required for my college applications is due Monday. What do you think I've done? That's right, absolutely nothing. I do, however, have one rockin' recommendation letter from a certain Kelly Paschall. It's a beautiful thing.

I have always wanted to go fencing. When I was a child, it represented that certain lifestyle of elegance, prominence and culture. It would be great fun. (The movie makes me think of this.) Speaking of my childhood, I was always very concerned with historical reputations. For some time I was completely obsessed with King Harold Godwinson and his role in the Battle of 1066. This fixation was no doubt welcomed by one of my favourite novels at the time, The King's Shadow. As many of you know, I also went through that terribly indulgent British craze...God Save the Queen.

Today I went to the eye doctor and am slowly but surely getting used to a rather invasive pair of contact lenses. After the most unfortunate break of my more or less "trademark" purple glasses, I decided it was time to go for an update. I couldn't find any satisfying frames, so I'm still on the prowl.

The picture above is from Volunteer Girls State, taken through the peephole. Such a fun day :)

Oh, and I DID get the invite back to camp! Hooray!

Well, I bid you ado, and wish you a happy day of thanks.

18 November 2008

Extra Thoughts.

Well, as usual, I am procrastinating. Honestly, that thicker-than-average Biology packet is not that attractive. Something that I cannot wait for? Britney's For the Record special that will be on MTV this Sunday! I am super excited. It's lame, but I really love Britney Spears. She has been through a lot, more than any normal person can fathom and it is no one's place to judge her or anyone else. Plus, I have EVERY album. I know my Britney, bitch.

Not much else is happening. I am also very excited about Thanksgiving :) I particularly love stuffing. So good. Inevitably, a holiday means days out of school! Now, this convalescence will, of course, be interrupted by a hardy football match. You must understand...we are "the torchbearers of tradition-Patriot pride personified!" This belief is fundamental in the lives of many citizens here. Well, not particularly the band; we are just set up for failure and have no standards. Our Christmas show was not "cool" in the least.

Another of my guilty pleasures? Elton John. He owns, and there is no debating. I also know my Elton. I've got albums like no other nearly average person.

I'm on the search for a suitable senior quote for the yearbook. It needs to embody so many things; a very comprehensive, expressive, intelligent, significant group of words. So many choices. In searching, I did find this particularly funny quote, if not mildly inappropriate:

“Don’t knock masturbation. It’s sex with someone I love.”
—Woody Allen.

Hahahaha. Well, I should be off, there's reading to be done. And applications. And this general thing called life.

P.S. I started a blog with some formal writings from recent years. View my profile. :)

15 November 2008

My POA is MIA.

Hey howdy ho, yo! Today I am a bit heartbroken because a certain invitation did not make its way to my email inbox. But, what am I going to do in July? I haven't been home in July in 5 years! I've been in Great Britain, Iceland and J. Low. My dearest friends weren't receivers either, so we'll just go on a trip-to little Kentwood, Louisiana, to Serenity Ranch :) Hooray. Camp has been the single greatest experience of my life, and I've met many of my very closest friends there. It's helped make me a better person and taught me various skills. Plus, it was a total P-A-R-T-Why? 'Cuz I gotta! ha. Yep, we had some grand ol' times. Pictured above: some good buddies :)

I did receive the 2nd installment of the Decemberists Single Series. This time the vinyl is an attractive tealy blue and I love it. I'm anxiously awaiting the new tour...I need to know how many hours I have to drive ;)

Here's something really ghetto: I had to tape my saxophone with electrical tape because it is a piece of junk. Poor Johnny, he's served me well. And last nights confusion in the rain did nothing but worsen his malfunctions, I assure you.

Well, I say good day to you, for I should be doing something productive like college applications or cleaning or influencing young minds. I'll get back to you.

12 November 2008

Rehearsal.

Well, today was Wednesday! Hooray for All West Rehearsals! While today was not really a good practice (just very unfocused) there's something cathartic in playing a dear saxophone :) The piece isn't really that hard once you play it. I should really work on those blasted scales. Ew. What am I doing? I'm procrastinating from copying down the entire Chapter 5 in my economics book. I have such rubbish to look forward to because I did not pay any attention at all to her "rabbit chases." Oh well, I'll just plug up the 'Pod and crank things up...I can do anything with music. A specific Bible verse comes to mind. Strength.

It is wet and dull outside, possibly a weatherly response to our feelings these days. It's that time of year that is inevitable: a time post-line. The line represents a comfortable amount of time spent with a concentrated group of people. Now, once you have crossed over this line, everyday is like a time bomb, eager to explode with drama and new entertainment worth little more than the vapour of the breaths spent to say. Perhaps because I know it no other way, or perhaps because I know best (psht), I feel that this post-line time is only amplified into greater tragedy because of marching band. This thought could also be aided by the considerations (1) a greater number of my friends are in band and (2) it is all I do during these days. The cure for this illness? Christmas break. It can't come soon enough.

I'm absolutely in love with Wagon Wheel. I want someone to sing a similar song to me :) hahaha. I am a sucker for fiddles and banjos and weepy, tacky expressions with geographical aid.

I bid you farewell.

10 November 2008

Silence Means Consensus.

Oh, Marsha ;)

So, I've returned from Earlham with a fresh look at things, and with satisfaction of finding exactly what I sought. Earlham is full of young minds eager to engage themselves in a changing world, and fears of inadequacies were soon put to rest; in retrospect they now seem ridiculous and another token of proof towards my mild paranoia. Anyways, it was a wonderful stay. My host was really helpful in means of the real side of Earlham life; I was present for bitch  sessions, party planning and, perhaps most importantly: free donuts. It is a rich community, and one that I soon hope to be a part. In addition, the food was splendid and there are lots of books!

Earlham also continued to remind me of J. Low. It was strange...like J. Low, with boys. Lots of people have buttons saying "I heart Consensus" and all that went through my mind was eye-contact and a silent room.

I sat in on EcoBio and Basic French...pretty interesting stuff. Pictured above is Bundy Hall, the dormitory in which I stayed. It was a cozy stay and I heard tell of it being the best-all the more reason for me to reside there-ha. Hopefully I will be awarded lots of cash!

In other news: WTF is wareate.com? I googled it and learned how sketch it was after someone told me a picture of mine was on there. Lame stains, scams and all. Well, tomorrow I return to my normal, unimpressive life, falling deeper into the set schedule by which I circumstantially choose to live. My wishes to you.

08 November 2008

Fall Preview.

Good day. I should really be packing now, but most likely won't be able to focus until after midnight-it's how I work. Ha. Tomorrow I'm going to Earlham College for a fall preview day, including an overnight stay and a day of classes. I am extremely nervous! I am building up the mindset of "just go for it" and treating it as an adventure, but...it's the little things that I obsess over. Par example: when in these situations taking a shower is risky business, all types of things could mix up the morning. Also, WTF am I supposed to do with my hair!? On a more serious note, somewhere in the deep recesses of my being I am really frightened that I'm not smart enough to be there. I mean, I'm confident and relatively knowledgeable but when it comes down to it, I don't know that much. But by the same token, I tell myself that I shouldn't know so much, and life is a learning experience. It's the assurance of finding people both very similar and wildly different that can teach me exorbitant funds of knowledge that excites me about Earlham. I've been really banking on college to be my real life since, I don't know, the 6th grade and I'm really expending a lot of energy into finding the most suitable one. This is my 2nd visit to Earlham and I think it's where I belong, but it's incredibly expensive and I've been to other wonderful places as well. (Recently a magnificent trip to WA to see Western) Alas, I know all will be set in place however it settles :)

In other news, hooray for a new PostSecret! It's amazing how many of secrets I can relate to and how truly talented many of the senders are. I've yet to send in my own, but it's on my to do list.

As I sit here, sipping my oddly tasted-but not sour milk and hope I can find a suitable sweater, I also wonder about my "weed purse" I recently chose to wash--perhaps not the greatest idea. It was a handmade grade-A hippie purse, if you know what I mean, and it made everything completely purple; it basically re-dyed itself...and an unsuspecting towel and the inside of our drier. Oops. Hopefully it's salvageable...

p.s. happy birthday, Eric!

04 November 2008

Thank You.

Wow. Barack Obama was elected the next President of the United States of America. This is monumental, a defining time in our nation's history. I was watching, teary eyed and joyful :) The picture here that I've edited with Flickr says it all.

03 November 2008

It's Time, America.

Alrighty, folks, this is it! As "the longest campaign in history" comes to a close, I can't help but feel a part of history. Not really, considering I can't vote and haven't made speeches or hosted those little house parties you get emails about. But, in my defense, I do have a sticker on my window and a button on my shirt. :) Anywho, I just sat throught Conan O'Brien so I could see The Decemberists perform "Days of Elaine" from the new single series. I'm super excited; mine shall arrive shortly by post because I'm "that sort of customer." One time I dared to guestimate just how much money had been spent on The Decemberists/Colin Meloy and it was quite a hefty sum. Let's see, we'd have to tally the cost of every CD, LP and vinyl specials, t-shirts, concert tickets, the gas to get to the concerts (and his house, which I found at about 1:30 in morning), nifty buttons and various odds and ends, hotel expenses, et cetera. As you can see, it's expensive being a "stationery groupie."

Enough about that, let's discuss literature. Well, I'll type and you may or may not read (I'm guessing the latter, just going out on a limb). I printed off a list of the 1001 books you must read before you die, highlighted the ones I've read (only ten), and rearranged my heavy laden shelves so all the aforementioned books are in a common location. Now, this weirdness dates back to my toddler years, when I had all of my Disney movies labeled alphabetically. I went on to arrange my shelves like that of a library, minus the nonfiction decimal system, it never turned me on.

The bit I take care of in the library ranges from 900-999. In reality, my excellent services are offered throughout the establishment, but I digress. This means some boring, stuffy books to which I tend. I honestly think people grab a copy of New Moon and stick it between all the Time Life volumes for humour. PSA: It's not funny.

Well, enough of my ranting. I should be off to bed. I have both an AP quiz and economics test on the morrow, neither of which I studied. But, in great news, I am privileged enough to sacrifice sleep for time spent with Kelly. Oh, happy day!

28 October 2008

Can You Feel It Building?

Well? Can you? I just saw High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Not to be too embarrassingly tacky but OMG. Hahaha. It was wonderful. Throughout the whole movie I was thinking...I'm not alone with these end-of-high school decisions; I have Troy, Gabriella, Chad, Taylor, et cetera, et cetera. With it fresh on my mind, I've come home and listened to Breaking Free multiple times. I do love the first one's music. And at one point in my life I may or may not have known the We're All In This Together dance. Oh, J. Low....

Speaking of J. Low, I miss it immensely. It was there that today's picture was taken. Me as Chad Danforth for PC Night: High School Musical :) That's right...I got my head in the game!

Today was the last day of school for the week! Hooray! I rearranged my room because it finally got to the point that I couldn't sleep, with thoughts of "It's been like this too long," running through my mind. I am pleased with the new arrangement; it should keep me entertained for a while. In mentioning entertainment, I think of the endless possibilities which my dreams present to me. Au revoir, mes amis!

26 October 2008

A Dog's Day All Day.

Greetings. What about dogs? In my opinion, they should not be the subjects of endless personifications and feature films, save for The Lady and the Tramp. What brings this to mind? Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It is currently the 3rd worst film I have ever paid to see. (1st: Cloverfield, 2nd: Elf) Ridiculous.

Also, today's general malaise was....canine. That is to say, that in this instance, canine is synonymous with lazy, humdrum, apathetic, et cetera. I did little but recover from my life. My drug of choice? Sleep. We hosted a band competition yesterday. I am sure it went fairly well with little to no hiccups, but I am not A. Cavin; I do not know everything.

I am not particularly looking forward to tomorrow. I think of it as not much of anything other than another 24 hour period during which I will only grow more indecisive, closer to deadlines and proof that I have no clue what I'm supposed to be doing. :) But I'm sure it will be an adventure. That is worth living for.

I've restarted New Moon in hopes of catching up in the Twilight series, but, honestly, I am a bit "behind the times" in any case of a popular series. For example, I am only 3 and 1/2 books into Harry Potter and they are like on the 8th movie or some such nonsense. Also, that Series of Unfortunate Events. I have been sitting somewhere in the 5th book since 7th grade. But I have read The Giver books, so that counts for something in Heaven.

In other news, the picture is a sign on a door at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Incredibly intelligent people worked behind this door. They had a friendly dog. Avocado likes science.

Well, I'll leave you to it. A bientot.

24 October 2008

Change We Can Believe In.

Certainly it wouldn't be surprising that if eligible to vote, I would be casting in favour of Mr.
Obama. I have a shirt, various stickers and a hope for America. Haha. I also have this video
to show you. It is absolutely, down right hilarious! Just a quick note today, something to
entertain. Farewell!

23 October 2008

There's A Wrinkle in the Water.

Good day to you and yours. Today was an average day, more or less accomplishing little to nothing. It is that time of year that the most chronic humdrum is everybody's disease. This diagnosis leaves me little expendable energy for college applications and relationships and personal endeavors, so the drawing board of my life is a bit....blank. There are indeed a few eraser smudges here and there and that dreadful spindly product that is wont to be near mistakes. I'm in the middle of something that is always very hard for me: transferring my iPod to a new computer. Hopefully this will be the last in a while because I now have my own computer to do what I will. Naturally, I have an AP Biology test tomorrow, but my evening was spent working on chord progressions and laughing with my sister. My alternative is better, it isn't likely studying would make a huge impact in any case.

I've checked out the companion novel to A Separate Peace and also the film adaptation, so I am set for the weekend :) I'm helping my sister to broaden the scope of her recorder-talents, as it is more or less analogous to saxophone habits. It is an interesting area to charter.

Today's picture shows Bellingham bay. I enjoy the black and white contrast with the sailboats. That was a splendid day. The days here are becoming dimmer and rainier, with the negligent onset of a late winter responsible. Oh, and in other news, Happy Mole Day!

22 October 2008

O New England.

Hello, friends. Well, today was quite an enjoyable day, or at least the latter half. I don't much remember 1st block; I spend my time reading and writing most illegibly. 2nd block was some fun with the arrival and processing of several new books. I'm so glad I'm a Library Assistant :) 3rd block was AP Biology, so that goes without saying that it was entertaining in itself. Our usual band "standards" were met this afternoon. It continues to befuddle me that we can practice and practice the show but no one gets any better. It's as if our progression is stagnant--like an ill-fated pond in the heat of summer when everyone wants to go fishing but no one can manage the disappointment and stench which is only exemplified by the raging warmth. That is our band. Today was Wednesday, also known as "All West" days, implying that I may look forward to "practicing" with Bacon. What a real treat! It truly is the highlight of my Wednesdays and Thursdays.

I've just finished A Separate Peace and still have the intimacies and stigmas of the novel fresh on my mind. It is such a heavy piece, accounting for approximately 1/3 of today's title's appropriate relatedness.

In other news, providing another fraction of the title's functionality: I've just received my 180 gram vinyl of Always the Bridesmaid Installment 1: Valerie Plame and O New England. How I do love The Decemberists. Thus, armed with my coloured record and a rather dashing Ellis-designed shirt, I will introduce to you my last dedication to New England with an explanation of today's picture.

Taken in Boston, it's a capture of a rather intriguing cemetery a few blocks' distance from the Old North Church, where Paul Revere acted in ways that would warrant future poems and adorations. I have an eery fondness of cemeteries, and I feel like this picture does a nice job representing possibilities with the bricked path, but also the ubiquitous groundings of hardships, et cetera with the hazy presence of the graves on either side. Also, Boston is named as a setting in the aforementioned novel, so it was a clear choice, if only in my legally blind eyes. :)

21 October 2008

Nothing is Worth More Than This Day.

Hello! Oh, how true that statement is. With this in thought, I take time to ponder over what this day has been to me. In truth, nothing particularly interesting or definitive happened, so in truth perhaps this day is the best example of my life. I did take that AP Bio quiz and feel I fared quite well. Today we had a mock election at school; with my homeroom acting as the ever-so influential state of North Carolina. It was a bit of a flaky election, for my homeroom is heavy laden with staunch conservatives whose only support for their ideals is "'cause my daddy said." With this general mentality in mind, many McCain fans were flabbergasted that Obama supporters dared to live in Tennessee, not to mention publicly announce it. I was a bit confused with the whole process about twenty minutes into the thing; we had a tie for quite some time but suddenly it was settled and the final tally was McCain-11, Obama-7. (Not sure how that worked out) Alas, there is hope, however, because Obama did win the schoolwide election.

It's that time of year so without doubt I am reading A Separate Peace and loving every word of it. It's such a grand novel...so deep and complex, yet an example of everyday life in so many instances. I often use the title to describe days, in that I have the same feeling when looking upon a day as I do when reading Knowles.

Also in tow is All West audition rehearsing, with scales and embouchures and dynamics and blah blah blah. How I do love audition music, though. In my mind every saxophonist falls under the same, per say, "ideals of habits" as I do, par example: a perhaps false sense of grandeur and sophistication, joking narcissism...a humble genius mentality, if you will. Not to say that I am particularly pretentious, but, you know. It is difficult to phrase my idiosyncrasies, so I leave them at this.

In addition to time spent on the saxophone, I am (slightly) progressing my (very limited) guitar repertoire. I can more or less play the introduction to a few of my most enjoyed songs: The Tain, We Both Go Down Together, Leslie Anne Levine, The Engine Driver, Song For Myla Goldberg, Yankee Bayonet, Of Angels and Angles, Everyday is Like Sunday and Devil's Elbow. If you'll be so quick to notice, all of these songs involve Colin Meloy, as they should. So, with a note of his genius and my lack of skill, I leave you to a marvelous time. Good day.

20 October 2008

Too Saxy.

This is a Yamaha "YAS-875EX" Alto Saxophone, a primary item on my wishlist. Look how it glows :) My morning was spent rehearsing with jazz band, my afternoon with marching band and my evening with orchestra. This horn could greatly improve the quality of these activities and countless others. I am ready to own this sax. I currently play on a Vito affectionately named Johnny I got in 6th grade. He has been good to me. I've just finished making some Mole Day posters for the science club. Mole Day is this Thursday and to be quite honest, I'm at a loss of information about moles, other than it's a measurement. I finally finished the film Deliverance, a bit eery to be sure. However, it shan't keep me from enjoying rivers and canoeing and whatnot, as I did this weekend. I should really be off to study for my AP Biology quiz concerning Meiosis I and II versus Mitosis. A real treat if you ask me. Cheers!

To Ponder Such Things As the World.

This photograph was taken in Chicago outside the Shedd Aquarium. It's one of my favourites because to me it gives off such a philosophical impression, hence the title. I'm not sure of the story behind this statue or of its subject, but I do know that it calms me and provokes my wandering mind. I like the blue haze behind the man, perhaps representing how the mind can work. The sky sort of melds into the lake, and I like that presentation of connectivity that is so ideal in any true thoughts.
